Ole Miss Rebels Handle Mount St. Mary's, Remain Undefeated in Chris Beard Era

The Ole Miss Rebels took care of business against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Tuesday night.

OXFORD -- The Ole Miss Rebels remained undefeated on the season on Tuesday night, picking up a 77-68 win over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers at the SJB Pavilion.

It wasn't a pristine shooting performance for Ole Miss (8-0) early in the first half, but by the intermission, the Rebels held a 39-34 lead over "The Mount" with a 53.8 shooting percentage from the field. At halftime, Jaylen Murray led the Rebels in scoring with 10 points, and Matthew Murrell had nine.

The second half saw Ole Miss pull away and pull away quickly, opening up an 11 point lead by the under-16 timeout.

At the game's end, the Rebels finished shooting a 48 percentage from the field and 33 percent from three. Mount St. Mary's, by comparison, finished with percentages of 41 and 20, respectively. Jaylen Murray had another big game for Ole Miss, and he led the Rebels in scoring with 26. He was joined in double digits by Matthew Murrell with 24 and Allen Flanigan with 10.

This marks the second straight big game for Jaylen Murray as he provided a necessary spark for the Rebels in their upset home win over the Memphis Tigers on Saturday.

With the win, the Chris Beard era in Oxford is off to an 8-0 start, and the Rebels will travel for their second road game of the season on Sunday when they face the UCF Knights in Orlando. That game is set for a 3 p.m. CT tip-off, and it will be televised on ESPN+.
