SEATTLE — The Cinderella run came to an end for the Ole Miss Rebels on Friday night, falling to the Louisville Cardinals 72-62 in the Sweet 16.

The historic campaign for the Rebels came to a close after a back-and-forth game that the Cardinals extended late in the second half. Marquesha Davis (19), Myah Taylor (19) and Angel Baker (11) all hit double digit point totals for the Rebels in the loss.

As a team, Ole Miss shot 37.1 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from three. Louisville, by comparison, shot 45.8 and 41.7 percent, respectively.

Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin did not think early in the year that this team would be the one to reach this point of the year, but she was humbled and proud of her group.

“If you had asked me in November, I would have checked you to see if you were on drugs,” McPhee-McCuin said. “Honestly, I had a conversation with my AD and warned him that I don’t know what this year is going to look like.

“This team felt different. As we continued to do well, I started to believe as much as they did. For us to be here with the chance to go to the Elite Eight, we can only be proud.”

With the loss, Ole Miss finishes the 2022-23 season at its deepest postseason point since 2007, and it closes with an overall record of 25-9.
