Ole Miss Rebels Guard Daeshun Ruffin Enters Transfer Portal

Ruffin is a former McDonald's All-American, the only player in Ole Miss history to hold that honor.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels basketball guard Daeshun Ruffin plans to enter the transfer portal, On3 reported on Monday. The sophomore is a product of Callaway (Jackson, Miss.) High School.

Ruffin is a former McDonald's All-American from his time at Callaway, the only signee at Ole Miss to ever hold that honor, and he was a consensus four-star prospect. He has dealt with injuries during his time at Ole Miss, and he took a step away from the program during last season.

Here is a statement from Ruffin at the time:

I want to begin by saying that I love the University of Mississippi, my teammates, my coaching staff and the Oxford community. My two years here have been nothing short of amazing, and despite my injuries, I've built friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. This decision is me simply putting myself and my future first, alongside my family.

In hopes of regaining 100 percent mental and physical health, I've decided to step away from the team and take every action necessary to get well. However, this is not me giving up on the game I love, but simply taking time to return to full health. I look forward to being back with my Ole Miss teammates in the future and giving them and you the very best version of me. Please respect the privacy of my family and me at this time. Thank you all and much love.

Ruffin will likely have plenty of suitors in the transfer portal, but Ole Miss coach Chris Beard has also stressed his desire to keep the Rebels' roster as intact as possible entering his first season in Oxford. In games he has played at Ole Miss, Ruffin has averaged 11.3 PPG.
