Rebels Lose Two Basketball Commits Following Kermit Davis Firing
OXFORD, Miss. -- Following the firing of men's basketball head coach Kermit Davis last week, two Ole Miss Rebels commitments have also appeared to take their talents elsewhere.
Rashaud Marshall and Josh Hubbard, two four-stars who were in Davis' recruiting class, have reopened their commitment. Joe Tipton of On3 was the first to report the news on Tuesday.
Marshall originally committed to the Rebels in July before officially signing with the program in November. He has now requested release from his National Letter of Intent following Davis' firing.
The power forward spent his prep days at Blytheville (Ark.) High School, and he received SEC interest during his original recruitment, namely from Missouri and Texas A&M.
Hubbard has spent his prep career at Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Mississippi and is the all-time leading scorer in Mississippi high school history (4,275 points). His commitment originally came in September prior to his signing in November.
The Rebels now only have two commitments in the 2023 class in Jordan Burks and Jacob Gazzo.
Following Davis' firing from Ole Miss, athletics director Keith Carter issued a statement on the decision.
"We thank Coach Davis for his dedication to the Ole Miss basketball program and our student-athletes," athletic director Keith Carter said. "No one wanted to bring a title home to Mississippi more than him, and we appreciate the passion for that goal that he shared with our team every day. As he has throughout his career, Coach Davis worked tirelessly to produce a winner, and we wish him, Betty and his family the very best in the future."
The Rebels return to the court on Tuesday night when they play host to the Texas A&M Aggies for senior night at the SJB Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
