Rebels Outshot By Gators In Gainesville, Suffer 11th Conference Loss
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Ole Miss Rebels fell victim to a strong shooting night from the Florida Gators on Wednesday, dropping the road game 79-64.
Although the Rebels shot 40 percent from the field, that percentage and their mark of 25 percent from three was no match for Florida. As a team, the Gators shot 59 percent both from the field and from beyond the arc.
The Rebels trailed by 10 points at the half and were outscored 40-35 after the intermission to seal the loss. Matthew Murrell (15) and Jaemyn Brakefield (14) were the only Rebels to reach double digits in scoring. By comparison, five of Florida's players exceeded 10 points on the night.
With the loss, Ole Miss suffers yet another gash in conference play, falling to 10-15 overall and 2-10 within the confines of the SEC. The Rebels will try to notch their third conference win of the season on Saturday when they return home to host rival Mississippi State in Oxford.
The last meeting between the Rebels and Bulldogs saw State come away with a 64-54 win on Jan. 7 in Starkville. Tip-off on Saturday in Oxford is slated for 2:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
