What did Kermit Davis Say About Signing his Prized Graduate Transfer?
Ole Miss landed the commitment of one of the most sought after graduate transfers in the nation, Dimencio Vaughn, earlier this month. Now an official signee, Rebel head coach Kermit Davis can comment on his new weapon.
This past year, Vaughn averaged 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game at Rider University while shooting 39.3-percent from three. He'll be adding another potent scoring threat to the Ole Miss backcourt.
In fact, Vaughn told the Oxford Eagle last week that he was told by the Ole Miss staff that he essentially will be slotting into the role played one year ago by Rebel leading scorer Breein Tyree.
His new coach, smartly, didn't use the Tyree comparison, but seems excited about what Vaughn can bring to the table.
"Dimencio gives us a very talented, versatile athlete that plays with a high motor," Davis said. "He shoots a really good percentage from three, while averaging 14.8 points and almost seven rebounds per game. We welcome Dimencio back to the state of Mississippi, where he won a state championship at Callaway in 2015."
247Sports rated Vaughn as the No. 4 available graduate transfer nationally. He's a guy that, with only one remaining year of eligibility, will be eligible to play immediately this upcoming season for the Rebels.
This past year, Vaughn ranked fifth in the MAAC in both scoring and rebounding, landing him a first-team All-MAAC nomination. It was his second such award.
Finishing his high school career in New York, Vaughn led Callaway High School (Jackson, MS) to a 2015 MHSAA State Championship under the coaching of former Rebel David Sanders.
Signing officially on Wednesday after his prior commitment, Vaughn is one of two transfers landing at Ole Miss in the spring window. Unlike Vaughn, fellow transfer Robert Allen will likely have to sit out one season before becoming eligible.
