AJ Finley Selected to Chargers 53-Man Roster
With the NFL preseason coming to an end, teams are finding themselves narrowing the rosters, and former Ole Miss Rebels safety AJ Finley was selected to the Los Angeles Chargers 53-man list on Tuesday.
Despite being undrafted, Finley’s importance to the Rebel defense did not go unnoticed, landing him an opportunity with the Chargers.
Over his four-year campaign with Ole Miss, Finley played a handful of different roles in the defense, but primarily settled with the safety position. In 2022, he started in all 13 games, leading the team with 46 solo tackles. During his career with the Rebels, Finley did not miss a game, playing in all 48 games where he had 245 tackles coupled with 8 interceptions.
Finley has been impactful since he came to Oxford as a true freshman in 2019, seeing the field in all 12 games that year where he recorded 16 tackles. From there on, Finley recorded 229 tackles and 8 interceptions in the three years as a starter, making him one of Lane Kiffin's most effective safeties.
Before his time with the Rebels, Finley led St. Paul's Episcopal school to three-straight Alabama state titles.
He joins former Ole Miss defensive back Deane Leonard who was drafted in last year’s NFL Draft and was part of this year's 53-man roster.
