BREAKING: Ole Miss DT Tywone Malone Commits to Ohio State

Former Ole Miss defensive lineman and baseball player Tywone Malone has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ever since former Ole Miss Rebel Tywone Malone decided to transfer in April, the two-sport star has turned into one of the more popular players in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

And now, he has found a new home, committing to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Tuesday.

Malone had reportedly heard from the Miami Hurricanes, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State, Michigan Wolverines, USC Trojans, and Oregon Ducks.

The sophomore is aiming to make an impact on both the gridiron and baseball diamond in Columbus.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound defensive lineman was rated as the No. 1 player coming out of New Jersey in the 2021 recruiting cycle, while Perfect Game had him pinned as the No. 2 first baseman in the state. Last season, Malone played in 13 games for Ole Miss football, totaling 10 tackles and one sack. In 2021, he also tallied a sack and three total tackles.

The Jamesburg, N.J., native struggled to find a role with the reigning national champions, however, serving as Ole Miss' designated hitter occasionally during midweek matchups. In 2022, Malone appeared in seven games and hit .444 with two home runs, and so far in 2023, he has appeared in six games and hit a solo home run. The dual-sport athlete finished his time at Ole Miss with a career batting average of 0.263 in 19 plate appearances.
