According to reports from On3 on Wednesday, former Mississippi State Bulldogs head coach Zach Arnett has been hired as an analyst by the Ole Miss Rebels. Arnett never faced the Rebels as State's head coach as he was fired from his post partway through his first season in Starkville.

The Grove Report was later able to confirm the reports of Arnett's hiring.

Arnett spent his collegiate playing days at New Mexico before breaking into coaching from 2011-13 as a graduate assistant at San Diego State. He moved into a full-time assistant role with the Aztecs in 2014 as the linebackers coach, and he added defensive coordinator to his duties in 2018.

In 2020 with the hiring of Mike Leach in Starkville, Arnett joined the Bulldogs as the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. While still serving as DC in 2021-22, he shifted his positional focus to safeties.

After Leach's passing in the offseason of 2022, Arnett was elevated to head coach and led State in its bowl game, a 19-10 win over Illinois in the ReliaQuest Bowl. His head coaching record was 5-6 overall at the time of his firing, and he was relieved of his duties with two games left in the 2023 regular season.
