Columnist Believes Lane Kiffin 'Should Be Fired on the Spot' if Ole Miss Rebels Lose on Saturday
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is not on the hot seat in Oxford, but one columnist in particular believes he should be if his team loses to the Auburn Tigers this weekend.
Joseph Goodman of AL.com wrote this week that Kiffin should be "fired on the spot" if the Rebels fall to the Tigers on Saturday. Seem harsh? Here's what he said.
"If Lane Kiffin loses to Auburn on Saturday, then he should be fired on the spot and never hired again to coach college or high school football in the United States of America," Goodman said.
Against Power Five opponents this season, the Tigers have averaged 15.5 PPG, and compared to the Ole Miss Rebels' mark of 35 PPG in the same category, that's not getting the job done. Still, Auburn has some playmakers on offense, and head coach Hugh Freeze will likely pull out all the stops to try and knock off his former team this weekend.
Historically, Ole Miss has struggled when playing on The Plains, only winning in Auburn, Ala., three times in series history with the most recent coming in 2015. Granted, some of these games were played at neutral sites early in the history of this rivalry, but still--the Rebels typically struggle on the road against the Tigers.
Will Ole Miss be able to take care of business against Auburn this weekend, or will the Tigers be able to pull off the upset? And, regardless...is it really fair to call for Lane Kiffin's job over a potential loss to a team in the SEC West?
