Lane Kiffin Shares Advice With Coach Yo Following Sweet 16 Berth

The Rebels head coach spoke with his head coaching counterpart earlier this week about her program reaching new heights.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin may not have all the answers, but that doesn't mean he can't share some advice with his coworkers.

When the Rebels women's basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 on Sunday night, Kiffin gave a call to head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin to offer some thoughts on what her next step should be after upsetting the one-seed Stanford Cardinal.

In their conversation, Kiffin focused on preparing players for the next game following an upset, something that he has seen at times during his career.

"Not that I have the answers. I called her the other morning and said, 'Go to the next game.' We've all been in situations where you focus too much on a big week the week before. The players all week are going to hear how great they are, and you've got to get them away from that and focus. Upsets happen all the time, and they're a big story at the time, but if you don't win the next one, you forget about them."

-- Lane Kiffin

In his media availabilities since coming to Ole Miss, Kiffin has often focused on a "next game" mentality, not putting too much stock into the outcome of the prior week, whether it be a win or a loss.

McPhee-McCuin, like Kiffin, has built a program that seems to be trending in the right direction at Ole Miss. If both coaches remain successful in Oxford, perhaps more encouragement like this is in store for the future.
