OXFORD, Miss. -- Perhaps the "Portal King" found his biggest hit this offseason not in a transfer player, but a coach.

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin lured defensive coordinator Pete Golding from the Alabama Crimson Tide this offseason, and his new defensive scheme will look to revitalize a defense that scuffled down the stretch last season.

Kiffin believes that Golding's system will work in Oxford, but this spring is paramount in installing that scheme on the field.

"I think it's really big," Kiffin said in media availability on Tuesday. "Very different scheme than what we played before as well as some new pieces. It's not just Pete. A lot of work to do there. We've seen the system work really well at a lot of places, and we just have to get our guys to learn it."

Last season under Golding's leadership, the Crimson Tide ranked ninth nationally in scoring (18.2 points per game) and 17th in yards allowed (189.3 per game). The Rebels' Isheem Young was also made available on Tuesday where he discussed some of the changes from Chris Partridge's defense a season ago to this new setup.

“Golding is more of a calm, cool, collected coach," Young said. "He seems like he has a good scheme going on for our defense."

The Rebels continue spring practice on Tuesday with more media availabilities to follow.
