Lane Kiffin: Suntarine Perkins is the 'Only Player Bama Wanted' Off Ole Miss Rebels Roster
Despite a rocky start, Lane Kiffin believes that the No. 13 Alabama Crimson Tide are one of the most talented teams in the country.
Recruiting rankings back that up. 'Bama is known for constantly pulling five-star players to Tuscaloosa, players itching for an opportunity to play for the legendary Nick Saban and earn a chance to play for a national championship.
Even though Kiffin claims he does not put a special emphasis on matchups against his former boss Saban, he does state that his No. 15 Ole Miss Rebels need to be locked in if they want to have a chance, and it all comes down to the talent on the other sideline.
"I don't really put anything extra into that," Kiffin said. "Just got to prepare for an opponent that's got great players. (Suntarine) Perkins was probably the only player on our roster they wanted, so, if you look at it that way, they basically had 85 draft picks, and we took what they didn't want.
"Got to go there and play against that. Got to be really well prepared and scheme things up just to have a chance."
Perkins, a freshman linebacker at Ole Miss, was heavily-sought-after by the Tide during the latest recruiting cycle, but he ultimately opted to remain in his home state and play for the Rebels. Outside of that, it's rare to see Alabama lose a recruiting battle, so even after falling to the Texas Longhorns and struggling with the USF Bulls, the Tide are still not to be taken lightly by Ole Miss this week.
Kickoff between the Rebels and Tide is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be televised on CBS.
