Morning Report: First Rebels Scrimmage Draws Headlines Over the Weekend

Ole Miss held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday, and multiple headlines came forward as a result.

Today is Aug. 14, 2023, and here's the news you need to know out of Oxford.

1. Wide receivers coach Derrick Nix served as the Ole Miss head coach for 24 hours over the weekend.

Head coach Lane Kiffin gave Nix the keys to the program for the team's first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday. Nix has served on staff at Ole Miss for 16 years, and he was thankful for the opportunity to showcase his coaching talents. You can read comments from both Nix and Kiffin here.

2. Speaking of the scrimmage, Ole Miss' defense won the day on Saturday.

Pete Golding's new-look defense stifled the Rebels' offense for the most part on Saturday. Defensive end Cedric Johnson feels that his unit is on pace to have a strong campaign in 2023.

3. Linebacker Khari Coleman is not a part of team activities pending a disciplinary matter.

4. Former Rebel QB Matt Corral struggled in his preseason work against the New York Jets last week.
