The Ole Miss Rebels are trending toward being a consensus top five team when the 2024 season kicks off in August, seeing a boost in 247Sports' pre-spring way-too-early Top 25 released on Monday.

The Rebels previously came in at No. 6 before moving up one spot in the pecking order, and you can read an excerpt about Ole Miss' shift below.

"One team's slide in the rankings is another's treasure. Yes, that's Ole Miss you now see inside our way-too-early top 5. It's hard to argue against it considering this is the most-talented roster ever assembled in Oxford on paper. The Rebels are one of the offseason's poster boys for "teams to watch" and have an impressive trajectory based on what Lane Kiffin's group accomplished with 11 wins."

That 11-win season was the first in program history for Ole Miss, and it sets up a multitude of interesting storylines entering next season.

For starters, we at The Grove Report have been adamant in the fact that, on paper, Ole Miss' roster is looking more and more elite by the day, given the returning talent from last season and the incoming boost from the transfer portal. With that being said, this is uncharted territory for the Rebels under Kiffin and, frankly, the program as a whole.

Since 2023 marked Ole Miss' first-ever 11-win season, the Rebels have never brought this level of momentum into an offseason before, and high expectations could always set up for a letdown.

Will that happen, however? Given the trend of the Rebels program under Kiffin, my guess is probably not. The 2024 season is setting up to be the perfect storm for Ole Miss, both in terms of talent and the expansion of the College Football Playoff to include 12 teams.

The games will decide the Rebels' fate, but in these offseason roundtable discussions, it seems that a good bit of money is on their success this fall.
