'I Like Competition': Jam Griffin Explains Why He Chose Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels running back room got some last-minute juice from the NCAA Transfer Portal when former Oregon State tailback Jamious 'Jam' Griffin announced his commitment to the team on Aug. 4.
Since then, it has been a quick turnaround for Griffin, as the tailback is now trying to learn Ole Miss' offense while taking reps during fall camp to make sure he is ready to roll for Week 1. Griffin was available to speak with the media on Monday after practice and talked about how he is adjusting to his new surroundings.
"I just try to take everything like a professional," Griffin told reporters. "I have to learn the playbook pretty fast so that's been a big part. Just getting [to Ole Miss] and taking everything in as fast as I can."
Despite the Rebels already having talented backs on their roster in Quinshon Judkins and Ulysses Bentley IV, Griffin knew Ole Miss was where he wanted to end up when he was in the portal.
"I like competition," Griffin said. "I like feeding off people, and I feel like [Judkins] can get me better and I can get him better in certain ways. I'm just here to work."
Griffin mentioned how he is acclimating to the faster pace of the Ole Miss offense.
"I feel pretty good, but I'm still not used to it," Griffin said. "I have some improving to do, but after being here for a few days and showing what I can do, I feel prepared for the season.
"At Oregon State, we had a slower pace on offense and would huddle all the time. But [at Ole Miss] there's no huddle, so I gotta get in shape for a no-huddle offense. That's the biggest change."
Last season with Oregon State, Griffin registered 86 carries for 488 yards and four touchdowns. Griffin spent his first three seasons with Georgia Tech where he rushed for 91 rushing times for 377 yards and two scores.
