OXFORD - Saturday was an unconventional day for the Ole Miss Rebels as they closed out spring practice with the "Grove Bowl Games," a series of 7-on-7 drills and side events that replaced a traditional scrimmage format.

While there was some football involved, these games were more designed for fun and fan involvement than showcasing a roster full of new and returning talent. Still, after the event concluded, Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart was made available to the media where he discussed his progress in dealing with an injury that has limited him during the spring.

"I feel pretty close to 100 [percent]," Dart said. "I think it's going to be a good period to have this May off to kind of get the extra work that I need and get back to the fundamentals of my game. Thought the training staff has done a great job. They have a really appropriate and detailed plan, and I thought because of that, I'll be in a better situation come season time.

"I'm really excited for this summer and really excited for this little break we have coming up and being back 100 percent."

Dart had an offseason procedure after the 2023 campaign, but he is entering his third year in Lane Kiffin's system at Ole Miss after leading the program to its first-ever 11-win season. During the course of the historic run, Dart threw for 3,364 yards and 25 touchdowns, and he enters 2024 as the solidified starter under center.

Kiffin stated on Saturday that his team will have one more practice on Monday to "officially" conclude the spring, but the focus then shifts to the summer. Ole Miss will open its season at home against the Furman Paladins on Aug. 31 after the conclusion of fall camp.
