Ole Miss Rebels Land Commitment From Transfer Portal DB Key Lawrence
The transfer portal momentum continued for the Ole Miss Rebels on Thursday afternoon as they secured a commitment from transfer portal defensive back Key Lawrence from the Oklahoma Sooners.
Lawrence announced his decision on social media, and you can view the post here. He came to Ole Miss on an official visit earlier this month.
Lawrence has spent the last three seasons playing for Oklahoma where he recorded 149 tackles, 10 TFLs, one sack, three interceptions, and 12 pass breakups. Before that, however, he played his freshman season with the Tennessee Volunteers. The former four-star recruit was rated as the No. 5 safety and No. 1 player in Tennessee in the 2020 cycle.
This is just the latest transfer news for the Rebels this week, as Ole Miss is scheduled to host former Texas A&M defender Walter Nolen as well as the Florida Gators' Princely Umanmielen. News also broke on Thursday that the Rebels are planning to soon host Tennessee Volunteers transfer edge Tyler Baron.
This newfound transfer momentum has been noticed and felt around the program, as noted on Wednesday by quarterback Jaxson Dart.
"Absolutely," Dart said. "I think when you're on the verge of doing something that a school has never done before and you're playing at a really high level as a team, I think that definitely catches the national eye. Coach [Lane] Kiffin and all our coaching staff make this a really exciting place to be. It catches a lot of people's eye, and a lot of people want to come here."
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is in the midst of navigating the portal as well as prepping his team for a New Year's Six bowl game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Dec. 30. The Peach Bowl matchup between the two teams is set for 11 a.m. CT in Atlanta, and the game will be televised on ESPN.
