Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart was injured in the second half of his team's 52-17 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night, and head coach Lane Kiffin provided an update on his star player after the game.

Dart took a hard hit on a run in the third quarter, and he immediately went into the medical tent before heading to the locker room. Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders then entered the game and played the rest of the way for the Rebels, but according to Kiffin, Dart could have returned to action after being evaluated, had the score necessitated.

“He was able to return after getting checked out," Kiffin said.

Dart won the quarterback competition over Sanders this season, and he has put up solid numbers for Ole Miss as a result. Entering Saturday night's game, Dart had thrown for nearly 2,500 yards and 16 touchdowns paired with just four interceptions.

Even if the injury proves to be more severe, the offense would likely be turned over to the aforementioned Sanders who has put up some gaudy stats of his own in college. Through his time at Oklahoma State, he threw for 9,553 yards and 67 touchdowns in his career while completing 61% of his passes. Turnovers have been an issue for Sanders, throwing over 40 interceptions, but he’s also posted a 30-11 record as a starting quarterback.

After the blowout loss, the Rebels turn their attention to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks next Saturday in Oxford before traveling to Starkville for the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night against Mississippi State.
