Ole Miss Legend Michael Oher Detailed in 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

Former Ole Miss Rebel Michael Oher is one step closer to college football immortality.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Another former Ole Miss Rebel is one step closer to college football immortality. On Monday, The National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced that legendary Ole Miss offensive lineman Michael Oher had been named to the Hall of Fame's 2024 ballot, joining 78 former players and nine coaches.

Oher played for the Rebels for four seasons from 2005-08, starting in 47 consecutive games. The Memphis, Tenn., native helped pave the way for back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons from former Ole Miss running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis in 2006 and 2007.

Oher was named an All-American twice and is one of just 13 consensus All-Americans in Ole Miss football history after earning a consensus first-team nod in 2008 for his incredible senior year. Oher also earned All-SEC honors three times with Ole Miss.

In 2008, the former Rebel was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy, which is given annually to the best offensive lineman in the country, and was also a finalist for the Conerly Trophy. Oher also received the 2008 Jacobs Blocking Trophy from SEC coaches for best blocker in the league and won the 2008 Shug Jordan Award as the Southeast Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Oher would have a successful professional career, which started after he was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 23 pick. Only 23 former Rebels have been taken in the first round of the draft and Oher is among them. Oher hit the ground running in the NFL, as he finished second in the 2009 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team that same year.

Oher was in the NFL for eight seasons and started in all 110 games of his career, including 13 playoff games and two Super Bowl appearances. He won Super Bowl XLVII with the 2012 Ravens starting at right tackle and started at left tackle for the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

Oher has the opportunity to become the thirteenth former Rebel to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, joining former teammate and Ole Miss legend Patrick Willis who was part of the Class of 2019.
