OXFORD, Miss. -- Four games into the 2023 season, and the No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels have already lost a player to the NCAA Transfer Portal.

On Wednesday, Ole Miss linebacker Reginald Hughes announced via social media that he will redshirt the remainder of his senior campaign and enter his name in the portal once the season ends.

Hughes will have two years of eligibility remaining after appearing in every game this season and 12 games in 2022 with Ole Miss. He registered three tackles, a fumble recovery, and a quarterback hurry through four games. The Tunica, Miss., native spent time with Northeast Mississippi Community College before coming to Ole Miss, and he left rated as the No. 1 linebacker and the No. 4 overall player in the JUCO ranks.

Before his JUCO career, Hughes was a three-star recruit out of Rosa Fort (Miss.) High School.

"I have faced some unfortunate obstacles during my process which has imposed me to make such a bittersweet decision for my future. With that being stated, I have decided to take a Redshirt this year and I will be entering the Transfer Portal this winter with two years of eligibility." -- Hughes via X.com (formerly Twitter)
