Ole Miss LB Suntarine Perkins Among 23 True Freshmen to Watch

Ole Miss Rebels true freshman Suntarine Perkins could make an immediate impact in Oxford this fall.

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels have many new faces to look out for entering the 2023 season. From true freshmen to transfers, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has some difficult decisions to make when it comes to his roster order.

Ole Miss true freshman Suntarine Perkins is included in that group of first-year players, but despite his classification, the linebacker is expected to make an immediate impact in Kiffin's defense. 247Sports recently listed the 23 true freshmen in college football who are expected to play important roles for their respective programs, and Perkins made the cut.

SUNTARINE PERKINS, LB, OLE MISS

Per 247sports' Chris Hummer, Perkins was a huge recruiting win for Ole Miss over Alabama and arrived in Oxford this summer with an opportunity to make an immediate impact. The Rebels brought in a lot of help in the transfer portal at linebacker, but the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is the type of athlete who can impact the game any time he steps on the field. Lane Kiffin is expected to play several new faces on the defensive side of the ball this season and you can expect Perkins to see a ton of snaps.

Perkins is the crown jewel of Ole Miss' 2023 recruitment class and was the only five-star of the group. Before making his commitment with the Rebels official, Perkins was being courted by Alabama and its previous defensive coordinator, Pete Golding, who will get his wish to coach the uber-talented linebacker. Perkins was rated as the No. 1 player in Mississippi and the No. 1 linebacker in the 2023 cycle. 

Perkins is set to compete for snaps with senior linebackers Khari Coleman, Ashanti Cistrunk, Monty Montgomery, and Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste at Ole Miss' 2023 fall camp in August. Nowadays in college football, with the transfer portal being so popular, freshmen expect to see the field right away and do not typically wait their turn on the depth chart. 

Perkins, however, will get snaps this fall because he is going to be one of the best players on the field for this revitalized Ole Miss defense.
