Rebels Transfer CB Tahveon Nicholson Flips Commitment To Louisville
Another Ole Miss transfer is headed to the ACC.
Illinois transfer cornerback Tahveon Nicholson announced his intent to commit to Louisville over the Rebels for the 2024 season. Nicholson is now the third player to flip from Ole Miss to the Cardinals, joining Tennessee edge rusher Tyler Baron and Tennessee defensive back Tamarion McDonald.
Nicholson, who has one season of eligibility remaining, spent four seasons at Illinois and started the past two. He finished the 2023 campaign with 36 tackles and six pass breakups.
In 2022, Nicholson was a member of the nation's top-scoring defense, which held opponents to 12.8 games per contest. The Illini secondary was among the elites of college football, allowing 173.8 yards per contest, the fifth-fewest among Power Five programs.
Devon Witherspoon (No. 5), Quan Martin (No. 47), and Sydney Brown (No. 66) were drafted within the first three rounds last April. Nicholson was the lone starter returning for the secondary.
Cornerback was expected to be an area of need for the Rebels entering the offseason. Initially, Ole Miss secured the commitments of Nicholson and Mississippi State transfer Decamerion Richardson, but both have since departed Oxford.
Richardson announced earlier this month he'd forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to start on the outside for the Rebels in 2024.
Since then, Ole Miss has secured the commitment of Michigan transfer Amorion Walker. The Rebels also remain in the mix to land former Alabama defensive back Trey Amos, who is set to visit Oxford this weekend.
Rebels Hosting Former Washington Huskies OT Nate Kalepo
Amos, who joined the Crimson Tide from Louisana last offseason, recorded 12 tackles and five pass breakups. A former starter for the Ragin’ Cajuns, Amos has recorded 72 total tackles, 18 PBUs and one interception over the previous four years.
The Rebels still have one of the top transfer portal classes for 2024, even with the departures of Nicholson, Baron, and McDonald. Ole Miss secured the commitments of defensive lineman Walter Nolan (Texas A&M), edge rusher Princely Umanmeilen (Florida), receiver Juice Wells (South Carolina), offensive tackle Diego Pounds (North Carolina), running back Logan Diggs (LSU) and linebacker Chris Paul (Arkansas), among others.
