Ole Miss Running Backs Coach Marquel Blackwell Leaving For SEC Foe
OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels running backs coach Marquel Blackwell is departing the Rebels program for the Texas A&M Aggies, On3 reported on Monday.
Blackwell spent three seasons with the Houston Cougars before this past season in Oxford, his only year at Ole Miss. The Rebels running backs room was a potent force in 2022, spearheaded by Quinshon Judkins who led the team in rushing yards and touchdowns with 1,612 and 16, respectively.
The rising-sophomore was a First Team AP All-SEC selection as well as AP SEC Newcomer of the Year He also eclipsed Ole Miss records for rushing yards and touchdowns in 2022 en route to winning the C-Spire Conerly Trophy, awarded annually to the top football player in the state of Mississippi.
While at Houston, Blackwell began as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach before transitioning to his running backs role in 2020. In 2021, he helped boost the Cougar rushing attack, more than doubling its touchdown production from the previous season.
This is another notable assistant who has departed from the Rebels to join the Aggies over the last couple of offseasons. Last year, defensive coordinator DJ Durkin parted ways with Kiffin’s staff and joined Jimbo Fisher in Aggieland.
