Rams Coach Sean McVay High on 'Special' Skillset With Ole Miss RB Zach Evans
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is high on former Ole Miss Rebels running back Zach Evans.
The Rams made a draft trade with the Buffalo Bills this week, moving up to pick No. 215 and select the former Rebel. Why? McVay believes he fits in well with the talent already in place in LA, specifically Mississippi-native Cam Akers.
"I think he has a nice skillset that compliments Cam (Akers), compliments Kyren Williams, Ronnie Rivers," McVay said. "And so, I think you're always still looking at complimentary skillsets, whether that's in a receiver, tight end, running back room. And that was kind of the appealing thing about Zach."
Some of Evans' tape while in Oxford jumped off the screen at McVay, but he was also high on what the back accomplished while suiting up with the TCU Horned Frogs.
"I thought (Evans) did a great job at Ole Miss, but even some of the stuff going back to TCU where he's taking more handoffs out of the pistol, you could really see he's a smooth runner," McVay said. "He's got a seamless ability to be able to work edges on people."
The battle for Evans now becomes first finding his way onto the roster and then onto the playing field, but it's evident the Rams are excited about his potential.
Evans seems to have found a strong landing spot in the NFL if he can overcome these obstacles, and perhaps Oxford was a launchpad for his professional career.
