Rebels Cast Social Media Vote in 'Best College Football Uniforms' Debate
One thing all Americans can agree on is that you can't go wrong with red, white and blue.
In sports, teams are always looking for the title of "the best," and it seems that has transcended into also looking the best. The Ole Miss Rebels' powder blue uniforms have helped propel them to new heights -- looking their best while playing their best.
The football uniforms have not disappointed, and this year the Rebels are throwing their hat in the ring for the best sweaters in college ball. The team has always generated buzz with a diverse, yet simple color scheme.
This week, ESPN's College Football Twitter account asked the question: who has the best uniforms in the sport? The Rebels were quick to respond in their favor.
The uniform reveals during the 2022 season were almost as anticipated as the games themselves. Ole Miss donned the powder blue uniforms, matching helmet and white pants for the Texas bowl against Texas Tech and chose navy-navy-gray for their matchup against Mississippi State in the 2022 Egg Bowl.
Having been around off-and-on since the late 1950s, the powder blue helmets were a result of an ordering faux pas by legendary Rebels coach Johnny Vaught.
Vaught ordered helmets that came in a color described as a "robin's egg." After having minimal options, the team went on to use them for nearly a decade all the way through 1969.
After the mistake in the order, the Ole Miss powder blues have been a hit, and they continue to be one of the hottest colors in college football today.
