Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart Named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Oxford, Miss. -- Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart was named the SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after an outstanding performance against LSU last Saturday. The SEC West rivalry matchup was an offensive shootout and appeared to take the crown as the most exciting SEC game of this season, which resulted in students rushing the field post-game.
Jaxson Dart spearheaded the offensive efforts, steering Ole Miss to a 55-point performance. Dart was exceptional, passing for 389 yards, rushing for an additional 50 and finished with a season-high five total touchdowns.
At the halfway mark of the fourth quarter, the Rebels were trailing 49-40, but Dart elevated his play to another level in what was deemed a “legacy game” for him. Dart led the offense on a 10-play drive that ended with him running in a touchdown from the one-yard-line, putting Ole Miss behind by two points with just 5:06 remaining.
On Ole Miss' final offensive drive of the game, the Dart-Tre Harris connection delivered yet again. Dart found Harris on a play-action pass for a 24-yard gain, putting the Rebels in prime field position. With 39 seconds left, he hit Harris again on a check-down pass to the right side, and the playmaker executed, darting between LSU defenders to run it in for a 13-yard touchdown, which clinched the victory in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
“I was just ready for it,” Dart said following the game. “The only thing that I could think of when I was running out on the field was this is like a legacy game, how do you want your legacy to be here? I wanted that moment, and I wanted to take full advantage of it.”
In a critical instant that helped keep Ole Miss in the conversation for the SEC West title, Dart delivered in what he considered an impact on his legacy in Oxford, Mississippi.
