Ole Miss Rebels Week 5 Opponent Preview: LSU Tigers
The Magnolia Bowl did not go the way of the Ole Miss Rebels in 2022. That much is certain.
The 7-0 Rebels suffered their first loss of the season in an embarrassing fashion at the hands of the Bayou Bengals, falling 45-20 in Death Valley after opening up an early lead on the road. This season, however, the Rebels get the LSU Tigers at home, and they will look to avenge last season's loss to Brian Kelly's team.
This week, The Grove Report will preview the Rebels' matchup against the Tigers following their loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, providing a look at both sides of the football as well as giving early game predictions. Today, we take a look at the Tigers team as a whole.
LSU Tigers
Record: 3-1 (2-0 SEC)
Head coach: Brian Kelly (2nd season)
Offensive Leaders
QB Jayden Daniels
Passing: 90-of-124, 1,296 yards, 12 TDs, 2 INTs
Rushing: 45 carries, 193 yards, 2 TDs
Daniels came alive as the Tigers' signal caller in 2022, leading LSU in both passing and rushing yardage categories.
RB Logan Diggs
Rushing: 38 carries, 253 yards, 1 TD
Diggs and Daniels currently lead the Tigers in rushing in terms of yardage, and running back Josh Williams is third on that list with 145 yards.
WR Malik Nabers
Receiving: 32 receptions, 523 yards, 5 TDs
Nabers was the only receiver to surpass 1,000 yards a season ago, also hauling in three scores. He has already surpassed that mark here in 2023, and he looks to be well on his way to breaking the 1,000-yard mark again.
Defensive Leaders
S Major Burns
Defense: 27 tackles, 10 solo, 1 TFL
Burns currently leads LSU in tackles despite residing in the secondary. He has yet to record an interception, however, but the Tigers' defense as a whole has four on the season.
LB Greg Penn III
Penn has accumulated 23 total tackles and 1.5 TFLs so far this season. He also has one sack and one interception in his defensive stats.
