QB Demond Williams Jr. Talks Elite 11 Performance, Relationship With Rebels Coaches

Williams was made available to The Grove Report following his time in the Elite 11 on Sunday.

OXFORD, Miss. -- Demond Williams Jr. may not have received an immediate invite to the Elite 11 finals on Sunday afternoon, but there is no doubt that he is one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

Williams participated in drills with other quarterbacks and players at the camp in Oxford on Sunday during the early stages of Mississippi heat, and his performance was solid in his eyes, although he does see room for improvement. The Ole Miss Rebels commitment gave his thoughts at the end of the afternoon.

"I think I did pretty good," Williams said. "I was on top of all my throws, and it was spinning for the most part. I thought I came out and did my thing."

As far as improvement entering his senior season at Basha (Ariz.) High School, there are a few things that the slinger has in mind.

"Just little stuff," Williams said. "Making sure I'm on top of my feet and getting underneath myself on all my throws."

Williams also went on the record and stated that he is working to pull other 2024 talent to Oxford, including names like JJ Harrell, Caleb Odom, Noreel White and Anthony Carrie.

Harrell plays for North Panola (Sardis, Miss.) High School just minutes from Oxford and is currently committed to the Tennessee Volunteers. Caleb Odom and Anthony Carrie have yet to pull the trigger on a commitment, and Noreel White is currently pledged to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

It's worth noting that Ole Miss has not signed a prep quarterback since Luke Altmyer out of Starkville (Miss.) High School in the 2021 class. Williams hopes to break that trend in 2024 with his Rebels commitment in hand, and he was repping his school choice on Sunday.

The younger Williams had his gear in a Nike Ole Miss backpack, and his father was dressed in Ole Miss gear as well. In short, they feel good about where they are with Lane Kiffin and staff.

"Definitely on a great footing with them," Williams said. "Always in contact."

Sunday was hot in Oxford, but not as hot as it will be this summer when Williams plans to make a trip to campus. Even so, he's from Arizona, so heat is an aspect he is used to, even with the difference in location and climate.

"I would say [the heat is] similar," Williams said. "There's been a lot of rain in Arizona for the past year. I think I'll be back for Juice Fest. I think it's at the end of July."

As of now, Williams plans for his official visit to Ole Miss to come during LSU weekend this season. That game is slated for Sept. 30 in Oxford.
