MLB Draft: Oregon State RHP Jacob Kmatz Selected By Tampa Bay Rays

With 157th overall selection, the Tampa Bay Rays selected Oregon State right-handed pitcher Jacob Kmatz in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Kmatz was the third Beaver selected in the 2024 Draft after second baseman Travis Bazzana (#1 overall, Cleveland Guardians) and fellow RHP Aiden May (#70 overall, Miami Marlins).

A New Mexico native, Kmatz won Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week three times this past season. He was a third-team All-American (NCBWA) in 2024 and a freshman All-American (Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA, Perfect Game) in 2022. Kmatz led the Beavers in starts with 16 as well as in strikeouts with 96.

Kmatz has a career ERA of 4.05 in 238 innings pitched with an opposing batting average of .235.

In 2024, Kmatz helped the Beavers to a record of 45-16 and a berth in the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament.
