As a handful of Oregon State Beavers compete in the NFL's 2024 preseason, former OSU running back Jermar Jefferson made his presence known on Saturday with the Detroit Lions.

Jefferson helped propel Detroit to a 24-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with two rushing touchdowns. Jefferson finished the game with nine total carries for 29 yards.

This preseason, Jefferson has carried 14 times for 38 yards for Detroit with the two scores. He enters his fourth season with Detroit, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has appeared in seven regular season games for the Lions, all in 2021. He spent 2022 on Detroit's practice squad and 2023 on injured reserve.

Jefferson currently sits outside the top three running backs on Detroit's depth chart, however injuries to Jahmyr Gibbs and others could open the door for Jefferson to make the 53-man roster. NFL squads are expected to cut their rosters down later this week.

The Los Angeles native spent three seasons with the Beavers, most notably winning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors in 2018 with 1380 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
