Oregon State Center Van Wells Named to Watch List For Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

The twelfth annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List was announced Wednesday by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. 

As he prepares for this first season in Corvallis with the Oregon State Beavers, Colorado transfer center Van Wells was included in the watch list.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I  who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: "integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity". The winner of the award must also have played football at and graduated from a Texas High School and/or currently playing at Texas Division 1 four-year college.

Wells, a junior from Houston, Texas' C.E. King High School, played in 20 games for the Buffaloes over the previous two seasons. As a sophomore in 2023, Wells earned a 80.7 pass blocking grade from Pro Football Focus.

In the 11 seasons since the award's creation, a lineman has not won the award.
