Just a few days away from the official beginning of Oregon State's 2024 football season, the Beavers finally have named their starting quarterback. Trent Bray's staff announced that Gevani McCoy will be under center on August 31 when OSU hosts the Idaho State Bengals.

The Beavers had been deciding between Ben Gulbranson, McCoy, and Gabarri Johnson for the job, with the three splitting reps throughout fall camp.

""He started making the plays we need him to make," head coach Trent Bray said of McCoy's recent performance in fall camp and what pushed him ahead of the other candidates.. "Then the comfort with the offense, and then doing stuff with his legs which is what we liked about him in the first place."

Bray also added that the door is open for Gulbranson and Johnson to see involvement in the offense, should the situation call for it.

McCoy transferred to Corvallis this offseason after three seasons at the University of Idaho. In 2023 as the Vandals starter, McCoy was an All-Big Sky Conference selection. Last season, he completed 229 passes on 354 attempts with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The 6'2" Redshirt junior also rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
