With fall camp underway, one of the biggest questions concerning the Oregon State Beavers still remains: who will be OSU's starting quarterback on August 31?

Beavers' head coach Trent Bray fielded questions about that situation and provided his perspective on the situation event though it will likely still be a couple of weeks before a starter is named. One popular candidate with a good chunk of experience in a Beaver uniform already is redshirt junior Ben Gulbranson.

"We know who he is. He's a great leader, great teammate, he just does everything you ask," Bray said of Gulbranson. "So looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress."

Gulbranson appeared in just two games last seasons, but threw for 1290 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions in 2022 and was the MVP of the Beavs' Las Vegas Bowl win over Florida that year.

Idaho transfer Gevani McCoy should also be on fans' radar after throwing for 2,910 yards and 15 touchdowns last season with the Vandals. Idaho State transfer also adds experience to the mix after 21 games for the Bengals over the last two years.

"It's really going to be the consistency of running the offense and making good decisions. Who can do that on a day-in and day-out basis is really what we're looking for."

The Beavers are looking to find a full-time replacement at the position for 2024 after last season's top two passers left for, what they think, will be greener pastures. Leading passer DJ Uiagalelei transferred to Florida State and backup Aidan Chiles followed former head coach Jonathan Smith to Michigan State.
