One of the athletes with Oregon State University ties at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be former Beaver basketball star Stephen Thompson Jr. Thompson and the Puerto Rican men's national team qualified for the games earlier this summer, winning the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in San Juan. It will be the Puerto Rican men's first Olympic appearance in 20 years.

Puerto Rico are in Group C alongside South Sudan, Serbia, and the United States. They will play their first group stage game on the morning of Sunday July 28.

If the Puerto Ricans fair well in the group stages, they will qualify for the quarterfinals that begin on August 6. Their first game pits them against a South Sudan team that gave the heavily-favored United States team a close match earlier this summer. Their third game pits them against that imposing USA team, and their second against three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia.
