This week, Oregon State athletics announced the hiring of former Beavers' basketball star Sydney Wiese as an assistant coach on Scott Rueck's staff. Wiese had spent the better part of the last seven years playing professionally in the WNBA and overseas.

Wiese authored a statement on OSUBeavers.com describing her excitement to take the role. One thing the Beavers' career three-point scoring leader made clear: she is taking her new responsibilities extremely seriously.

"It is an honor to serve these young women and be part of their journeys as student athletes. I don't take this opportunity lightly," Wiese noted.

"We are in the business of positively impacting lives through a sport full of big emotions and high-performance expectations. The on-court development is partnered with the growth of these kids off the court, as they take on the countless life experiences college has to offer. I know, personally, how life altering the holistic adventure of a student athlete is. It brings me joy having the chance to walk alongside these young women as they create their own paths. I can't wait to get to work with the current team and those who will be joining us in the future."

Per OSU, Wiese has already hit the road recruiting the next generation of Oregon State basketball players. Last season, the Beaver program reached their first NCAA Tournament since 2021 and made their first appearance in the Elite Eight since 2018. Clearly, Rueck, Wiese and the rest of the OSU staff have a strong foundation to build upon.
