Another Intriguing Option at Receiver for Oregon in the Transfer Portal

The Ducks have plenty of talented pass catchers but aren't opposed to adding more.
In this story:

The Oregon spring game wasn't exactly a shootout over the weekend, with the Green Team edging out the Yellow Team in a 23-20 win.

Kris Hutson was the only wide receiver to go for over 100 yards, totaling 143 yards and a touchdown on five catches. Transfer wide receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden were also standout performers and showed that Oregon's wide receiver room has plenty of talent.

But they're still looking to add more and are the projected front runners for USC wide receiver transfer Gary Bryant Jr. Over the weekend UTSA wide receiver Zakhari Franklin entered the transfer portal.

Franklin is coming off of a stellar 2022 season, catching 94 passes for 1,136 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He averaged 12.1 yards per catch and 81.1 yards per game.

There could be an Oregon connection here because he was Will Stein's leading wide receiver in each of the last two seasons while Stein was with the Road Runners.

Franklin is originally from Cedar Hill, Texas and played his high school football at Cedar Hill High School, one of the stronger high school programs in the state.

The Ducks aren't short for talent at wide receiver. In fact, all of their wide receivers aren't even on campus yet from the 2023 recruiting class as fans anxiously await the arrival of five-star Adidas All-American recruit Jurrion Dickey this summer.

Even so, Dan Lanning has repeatedly stated this offseason that his team is going to bring in players that he believes can make the program better.

We'll have to keep a close eye on this recruitment as well as that of Gary Bryant, who is slated to announce his transfer destination on May 13 and choose between Oregon, Texas A&M and Miami.
