Former Oregon TE Cam McCormick Petitioning ACC for Ninth Year of College Eligibility

McCormick spent seven years in Eugene before transferring to Miami for the 2023 season.

To say that former Oregon tight end Cam McCormick has had a unique college football career would be a massive understatement.

The Bend, Oregon native is 25 years old, yet he's still playing college football. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound tight end is now in his eighth year at the University of Miami after reuniting with former Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal in Coral Gables following the 2022 season.

On Tuesday, McCormick said that he's petitioning the ACC for a ninth year of college eligibility."

"I have not decided," the tight end told reporters when asked if he'd return for a ninth year. "I'm still kind of in the process of petitioning for it. Because it was accepted in the Pac-12, but as for the ACC,I have to re-petition for it. So that's in the works right now to see if I'll be able to get it or not."

McCormick has had brutal luck with injuries, suffering four consecutive season-ending injuries between his sophomore year with the Ducks in 2018 and his senior year in 2021.

Those injuries, combined with extra eligibility granted from the COVID-19 pandemic, have given him extra opportunities to play the sport he loves.

So far in 2023, McCormick has caught 2 passes for 28 yards with the Hurricanes.

While he's petitioning for his ninth year, he's undecided whether or not he'll actually use the extra year of eligibility if it's granted.

"I'm petitioning to have the option," McCormick said.
