Former UO Linebacker Kiko Alonso at Risk of Getting Cut by Miami Dolphins

Alonso has carved out a nice career in the NFL, but his hefty price tag is starting to outweigh his production on the field.

Former University of Oregon stars have been in the news recently, and unfortunately it hasn't always been for uplifting reasons.

After news broke that New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung was indicted on cocaine possession charges earlier this week, it also came out that former Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso is close to losing his spot on the Miami Dolphins roster.

Alonso, who was a staple on Chip Kelly's Rose Bowl winning Oregon team in 2011, has had a decent career in the NFL, and he has played for the Dolphins since 2016. However, new coach Brian Flores has come into Miami and taken over the defense, introducing a new philosophy to the team that may leave some veteran players, like Alonso, on the cut-list.

According to the Oregonian:

A change in philosophy, the emergence of younger linebackers, and Alonso’s 2019 salary could result in the release of the former Oregon Ducks’ star, according to a report.

Alonso is expected to receive $6.49 million in 2019 alone, which is staggering compared to the price tag that comes with some of the younger linebackers that Miami hopes to put on the field. If his production can't keep up with his price, there is a good chance that Alonso is seeing his last days in Miami as a Dolphin.
