Injury-Riddled First Half Overshadows Dominant Performance from Oregon
The scoreboard shows that the Ducks are winning by 21 points on Friday night at Autzen Stadium, but they really are down a couple.
Midway through the first two quarters, the Ducks saw injuries send two of their most important players to the locker room in Jacob Breeland and Jevon Holland.
Breeland eventually crutched to the locker room with a giant brace on his leg after going down on the Oregon sideline at the end of a 22-yard catch, and he has not returned. It was announced shortly after the injury that he would not come back to the game.
A couple of drives later, a single play saw both Holland and linebacker Troy Dye go down in a heap on the field. Dye was able to walk off, and he helped Holland to the sideline, who was walking with a heavy limp. After both leaders of the defense went into the medical tent, a cart soon came to retrieve Holland and take him to the locker room. Dye returned to the game and seems to be alright.
This is an awful time for the Ducks to lose two of their best players on the roster, with a monster game against Washington coming up next week. Breeland is the leading receiver for the offense, and while several players like Mycah Pittman, Juwan Johnson, and Brenden Schooler are now back healthy, Herbert will surely miss his safety valve over the middle. As for Holland, the Sophomore safety acts as a big play waiting to happen, and he has locked down receivers over the top for the entire season.
There is not yet any word on the long-term status of either player, but here is to hoping that they can return quickly.
