Oregon Ducks Hosting No. 1 Quarterback Recruit From Hawaii: Flip From Cal?

Four-star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele will visit Eugene this weekend, as the No. 1 Oregon Ducks host the No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini. Sagapolutele is the No. 1 recruit from the state of Hawaii. Can Coach Dan Lanning flip the Cal commit?

The future of the Oregon Ducks quarterback room is looking solid with quarterback Dante Moore and 2025 commit Akili Smith Jr. behind him on the depth chart. That's not stopping Oregon coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein from trying to secure more depth in their future quarterback room, as quarterback Dillon Gabriel takes his talents to the NFL.

Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele out of Ewa Beach, Hawaii was offered by the Ducks on Sept. 26 and is locked into an official visit to Eugene on Oct. 26 as No.1 Oregon hosts No. 20 Illinois. The 6-3, 220-pound recruit is committed to the Cal Bears but the Ducks are making a push, and so are the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia coach Kirby Smart just offered the left-handed quarterback a few days ago on Oct. 21.

“It’s a great opportunity and I’m very blessed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! They (Oregon) produce great talent every year... They make NFL products every year. Just the offense is great as well!”

Out of James Campbell High School in Hawaii, Sagapolutele threw for 37 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 3,757 yards in his junior season. After the end of his sophomore season, he finished with 31 passing touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 3,522 yards. Sagapolutele has also ran in a total of seven touchdowns throughout his high school career.

The Hawaiian product was able to catch up at the Elite 11 Finals with Gabriel who is from Mililani, Hawaii. Sagapolutele has been a fan of Gabriel’s since he was young and actually broke his previous state record in all-purpose yards during his senior season.

Sagapolutele as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Hawaii, on On3 rankings. Oregon has the No. 7 ranked 2025 recruiting class and a flip commit from Sagapolutele would boost coach Lanning and the Ducks, possibly into the Top-5 of for the 2025 recruiting class rankings.

Oregon's Stein has made it publicly known that he wants another quarterback commit from the 2025 recruiting cycle. He has been looking into finding more competition out of that position as the Ducks have reached out to Keelon Russell (Alabama commit), Madden Iamaleava (UCLA commit) and Ty Hawkins (SMU commit) to name a few. Something to keep in mind in case Sagapolutele decides to stay with the Golden Bears in Berkeley or possibly move over to Athens, Georgia with the Bulldogs.

The Ducks have a rich history with quarterbacks from Hawaii, including Gabriel and Heisman-Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
