Oregon Ducks Recruiting: 5-Star Commit Brandon Finney Flipping to Penn State?

Will Oregon Ducks five-star cornerback commit Brandon Finney flip from Oregon to the Penn State Nittany Lions? The Class of 2025 cornerback Finney has been committed to Oregon coach Dan Lanning since June but Penn State is predicted to flip the elite recruit.

The Oregon Ducks, coach Dan Lanning and co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Chris Hampton don't have five-star cornerback commit Brandon Finney all locked up just quite yet. Penn State has been in the picture for the entirety of Finney's recruitment and On3 predicts a flip to the Nittany Lions.

With Oregon's elite 2025 recruiting class continuing to grow bigger and deeper, losing Finney's commitment would be a big hit. Finney originally committed to the Ducks back on June 25.

Finney visited Eugene for Oregon's historic victory over Ohio State but also was in Happy Valley for the UCLA game the week before. According to On3's Chad Simmon, Finney is in regular contact with Penn State's head coach James Franklin as well as Oregon's Lanning.

“I got to spend time with coach Hamp (Chris Hampton) and coach Lanning. Their message to me was that they can’t wait for me to get on campus because I can have an early impact there.”

2025 cornerback Brandon Finney

In his junior campaign out McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, Finney finished with 22 tackles and three interceptions but did much more on special teams as well as a wide receiver. He averaged 33.8 yards on his punt returns for the season and finished with 632 receiving yards plus four receiving touchdowns. His versatility on both sides of the ball is what intrigues Lanning and Franklin the most.

"Ascending cornerback prospect verified hovering around 6-foot-2, 185 pounds with elite athleticism... combination of physical and athletic traits allows him to bully receivers of all shapes and sizes as a press-man corner but has also flashed the technical nuance to play off-man and zone coverage at a high level. Consistently gets to the catch point and times his breaks well."

According to On3, he's ranked as the No. 55 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 6 cornerback in the country, and the No. 2 overall prospect out of the state of Maryland.

Speedy Finney is also a track star at his high school. Finney ran a 10.85 100-meter dash and a 21.84 200-meter dash in his junior season, qualifying for the Maryland Class A state finals.

As of right now, it seems that Penn State has the upper hand on Oregon despite Finney being currently committed to the Ducks. One of the two Big Ten Conference members look to be the favorites to acquire the star cornerback for next season.

Even if the Ducks were to lose out on Finney, it's far from the end of the world. Lanning still believes that his future 2025 program can be as dynamic as any other in the country with commits from two five-star athletes in Dakorien Moore and Dallas Wilson.
