Oregon Offensive Line Coach Adrian Klemm Leaving Ducks to Join New England Patriots
It looks like more changes are coming to Dan Lanning's coaching staff in Eugene.
Oregon Ducks offensive line coach Adrian Klemm is leaving the Ducks to join Bill Belichick's coaching staff on the New England Patriots, according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel Monday morning.
Klemm interviewed with New England earlier this offseason for their offensive coordinator role, which was filled by Bill O'Brien. Klemm's role in New England will be a "offensive line-based", the report adds.
The move is surprising for Duck fans, after head coach Dan Lanning said last week that he didn't anticipate any coaching changes during a press conference on National Signing Day. Now the former Oregon offensive line coach, Klemm leaves Eugene after fielding the best offensive line in college football in terms of sacks allowed last season--as quarterback Bo Nix only went down five times in 13 games.
The Ducks ranked No. 3 in the Pac-12 in rushing offense, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and 215.8 rushing yard per game.
Klemm helped bridge the gap following Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal's departure to Miami to revamp the Hurricanes program in December of 2021. Not only was he a great coach on the field, but he quickly made a name for himself as an ace recruiter on Lanning's staff, landing notable commitments from 2022's No. 1-ranked offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr., as well as instant-impact transfer portal additions Ajani Cornelius (Rhode Island) and Junior Angilau (Texas).
He now returns to New England where he was Belicheck's first-ever NFL Draft pick, going 46th overall in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Prior to coaching in Eugene Klemm was the offensive line coach of the Pittsburg Steelers.
Dan Lanning now starts a search for a new offensive coordinator after already dealing with the departures of offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to Arizona State and safeties coach Matt Powledge to Baylor.
