The Ducks Open as Heavy Favorites over Washington State at Home Next Weekend
While the thrill of a comeback victory has yet to wear off for the No. 11 Oregon Ducks, Las Vegas sportsbooks are looking ahead to next week already, and getting prepared for the Ducks' home game against the Washington State Cougars.
Oregon has opened as a 15-point favorite according to VegasInsider.com, and there's a very good chance that the line could grow as we get closer to kickoff. The Ducks, who all-but-guaranteed a spot in the Pac-12 Conference Championship game with a win over Washington on Saturday, have struggled mightily against the Cougars in recent years, losing to WASU in each of the last four seasons.
This year could be different, however. Head coach Mike Leach is one of the better offensive minds in college football, but without his mustachioed quarterback Gardner Minshew under center, he has struggled to get much going in 2019. The Cougars are 4-3 on the year, with losses to UCLA, Utah, and Arizona State. Meanwhile, they have an impressive victory over Houston, but they still are nowhere near the gravitas that Oregon is this season.
The Ducks are riding high off of a win in Seattle, and the offense finally got into high-gear on Saturday after Justin Herbert threw for 4 touchdowns in a shootout victory. Now that Oregon has risen in the polls some, Herbert has seen his name re-enter the Heisman trophy conversation, and he will likely try to boost that resume by padding the stats against a porous Cougars defense. When something crazy happens in the Pac-12, Washington State tends to be at the center of it, so this game will likely end up as an interesting watch next weekend at Autzen.
