With the Ducks' Loss of Jacob Breeland, Who Will Fill His Shoes at Tight End?
The injury woes continue for Oregon, as they’re now without their top-two tight ends after losing Jacob Breeland to a season-ending injury during their game against Colorado last Friday. Cam McCormick is the other player being held out due to injury, and he, like Breeland, won’t see the field for the rest of the season.
So what now? Ryan Bay and Hunter Kamproyer are both listed as potential starters at tight end on the depth chart that was released Monday morning, and Mario Cristobal said that they’ll move Spencer Webb from WR back to his original position as well.
“The way we develop and the way we train, we have confidence in the next man up," Cristobal said on Monday. "That showed up on [Friday] again on both sides of the ball. So, complete confidence and trust in our guys."
Kamproyer was the one who primarily filled in for Breeland for the rest of the game, but his play didn’t amount to much although he nearly caught a touchdown. Bay and Webb have both seen time on the field this season as well, and it’s worth noting that they’ve each caught a touchdown.
Though the Ducks are scraping pretty deep into the barrel at the tight end position, they haven’t quite reached the bottom yet. Some experience is better than none — and with a huge game looming this weekend against Washington, expect whoever is out there to be ready.
