Boise State has fired head coach Andy Avalos. The move was first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel Sunday morning.

Avalos' firing comes after the Broncos defeated the New Mexico State Lobos 42-14 at home on Saturday night.

"I am grateful for the passion, effort and dedication Andy has given to our community and his alma mater while serving as our head coach," Boise State Athletic Director Jeramiah Dickey said in a statement. "Andy will always be a Bronco and we wish him and his family all the best in their next steps."

Defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson has been named the interim head coach.

Andy Avalos was the defensive coordinator at Oregon from 2019 to 2020 prior landing his first head coaching job. He played his college football at Boise and led the Broncos to a 22-14 overall record during his time as head coach. He also led Boise State to a 35-32 win in the 2022 Frisco Bowl over North Texas.

The Broncos are 5-5 this season and have two games left on the schedule against Utah State and Air Force.

This news comes on the heels of Texas A&M firing head coach Jimbo Fisher Sunday morning in the first notable move to start the next round of the coaching carousel.

There's also an interesting recruiting development on the heels of the Avalos firing.

2024 Burley (Id.) wide receiver and Boise State commit was in Eugene this weekend to visit Oregon for the Ducks game against USC. Bair is ranked the No. 40 player nationally, the No. 10 wide receiver and the top recruit in Idaho.
