Former 5-Star Oregon QB Commit Dante Moore to Enter Transfer Portal
UCLA Bruins true freshman quarterback Dante Moore plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday December 4, according to a report from 247Sports' Matt Zenitz.
Moore played in nine games for the Bruins this season and threw for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns against 9 interceptions while completing 53.5% of his passes (114/213).
UCLA finished the year with a 7-5 record, ending the season with a 33-7 loss to the California Golden Bears at home in the Rose Bowl. There were early reports that head coach Chip Kelly was set to be fired, but it now appears that the Bruins will retain Kelly for at least another season.
Moore was a five-star (0.9977 per 247Sports Composite) recruit coming out of Detroit (Mich.) Martin Luther King High School in the 2023 class. He was ranked the No. 5 player nationally, the No. 3 quarterback and the No. 1 recruit in Michigan when he signed with Chip Kelly and the Bruins, flipping his verbal commitment from the Oregon Ducks.
That move came on the heels of former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kenny Dillingham taking the job as Arizona State's head coach.
Oregon will likely be looking in the transfer portal for a quarterback to replace veteran Bo Nix after the conclusion of the 2023 season. Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, another quarterback with ties to Oregon, announced on Thursday that he will be entering the transfer portal.
There's been chatter that he will also weigh the option of entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Oregon's starting quarterback for the 2024 season will be a trending topic throughout the offseason and they also have redshirt sophomore Ty Thompson and true freshman Austin Novosad on the roster.
The Ducks also currently hold verbal commitments from a pair of 2024 quarterbacks in Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope standout Luke Moga and Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy Under Armour All-American Michael Van Buren.
