One of the best defensive players to come out of Oregon in recent years has found a new home in the NFL.

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced over social media on Friday.

Armstead is a former five-star recruit who played at Oregon from 2012 through 2014. He spent the previous nine seasons, his entire NFL career, with the San Francisco 49ers, who selected him in the first round of the 20215 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-7, 290 pound lineman was released by the 49ers earlier this week after helping lead Steve Wilks' defense to Super Bowl 58.

In his nine years with San Francisco, the former Duck logged 302 total tackles, 33.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 116 games. In 2023 he recorded 27 total tackles and 5 sacks. He missed 13 total games due to injury over the past two seasons.

The 49ers reportedly approached him about taking a pay cut earlier this offseason, which he declined before becoming a free agent.

Armstead now joins a Jacksonville defense that features former first-round draft picks Josh Allen and Travon Walker. His new deal with the Jaguars will reportedly span three years and pay him $51 million.

The Jaguars finished the 2023 season with a 9-8 record, which was good for second place in the AFC South behind the champion Houston Texans.
