The end of the current February recruiting dead period is in sight. As a result, many of the nation's best players, specifically in the 2025 class, are scheduling official visits to see their top schools.

On Thursday, Tampa (Fla.) Zephyrhills five-star defensive back DJ Pickett locked in his official visit to see Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks on June 21, according to a report from 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Pickett, who's ranked inside the top-10 nationally on the 247Sports Composite, is also set to take official visits to Georgia, LSU and the in-state Miami Hurricanes as well according to Wiltfong. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound defensive back released his top five schools on February 9 and Oregon was included along with LSU, Georgia, Michigan and Miami.

There's some recent recruiting momentum for the Ducks here with the coveted five-star recruit, as he was on campus in Eugene for one of two Junior Day weekends that came earlier this month.

Pickett is one of the most versatile athletes in the country for 2025 and he's viewed by some recruiting services as an athlete, with high upside as both a defensive back and a wide receiver.

His recruitment likely has a long way to go, but Dan Lanning has ensured that the Ducks will stay involved for a long time. Oregon has done a solid job recruiting the Sunshine State this cycle, already securing two verbal commitments from wide receiver Dallas Wilson and interior offensive lineman Chavez Thompson.

The coaching staff is also recruiting safeties Jadyn Hudson (Pittsburg, CA), Faheem Delane (Olney, MD) and Trey McNutt (Cleveland, OH) in 2025, after singing All-American Aaron Flowers and Kingston Lopa in the 2024 class.

Oregon's 2025 recruiting class

  • 4* WR Dallas Wilson (Tampa, FL)
  • 4* WR Adrian Wilson (Pflugerville, TX)
  • 4* QB Akili Smith Jr. (San Diego, CA)
  • 3* EDGE Matthew Johnson (Concord, Calif.)
  • 3* OL Chavez "Sandman" Thompson (Melbourne, FL)
