5-Star Faheem Delane Has Oregon in Top Group Following Visit
The top safety in the 2025 class was in Eugene over the weekend as Olney (Md.) Our Lady Good Counsel defensive back Faheem Delane took his first trip to Eugene.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior spoke with Ducks Digest about the highlights from his time with the Ducks.
"They were just talking about how they're trying to build a top defense and they're already a top-10 defense and top-10 offense," Delane said." Coach (Tosh) Lupoi and Coach (Dan) Lanning coming from 'Bama and Georgia, they know what good defense looks like. That was definitely a big plus."
A lot of recruits take these visits with the hope of soaking up the wealth of football knowledge college coaches have to offer and that was Delane's favorite part of the trip.
"I would just say watching film. Just going over how they see me in the system. Just getting out, it was my first time in Oregon ever, just seeing what it's like there."
The Maryland product hit it off with Dan Lanning, whose stock continues to soar as one of the top head coaches in college football.
"He's a great person and just a great coach," he said. "One of the younger coaches, so he can more so relate to some of the stuff that we have versus some of the other coaches. Great coach and just talked about his history and what Oregon has to offer for me."
Another thing that stood out to him was the first-class facility that the Ducks have in the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex. It's one of manning things Oregon has going for them as they continue to ascend as a program.
"I would say all the technology that they have for you to become the best. Just the little things, the prevention of injury. Just all the facilities that they have just to really maximize you.
"With Coach Lanning being there, the people, the players, the scheme and the coaches there---plus all this technology that they have to help you become the best version of you, I'd say it's going to be very deadly."
Following his trip to Eugene, Oregon is in a great spot with the five-star recruit.
"I would say top two, top three for sure."
What are the other schools?
"I would say Ohio State and maybe Texas."
Delane plans to slow things down a bit as he continues striving for greatness this offseason.
"For the most part I'm just gonna be chilling. Taking a break from recruiting just trying to better myself football-wise. I'm always working of course, but really just locking in. Cutting everything off for a little minute just to get better as a player, just maximize everything I can do. "
I ended the interview by asking Delane for something in recruiting that not enough people know about.
"I would say just the work to get there in the first place. When I was a freshman and sophomore, I was working out three, four times a day. Field work, lifting, DB work and speed work. That work that you got to put in just to put yourself in a position. You just gotta work, that's pretty much it."
